Alia Bhatt, who joined L'Oreal as a brand ambassador, was set to jet off for the Cannes Film Festival's opening ceremony. Reports were rife that after her bold appearance during Paris Fashion Week, Alia was all set to make India proud with her appearance at the 78th Cannes Film Festival. Still, she cancelled it at the last minute, leaving her fans across the globe disappointed.

Alia Bhatt was supposed to jet off to France to attend the Cannes 2025 opening tonight ahead of her red carpet debut, but according to the latest buzz, she cancelled it at the last minute. According to a report by the Mid-Day, Alia Bhatt has decided to postpone her Cannes debut in the wake of the current India-Pakistan situation.

A source mentioned that Alia chose to stay back due to the geopolitical tension between India and Pakistan, as she wanted to express her stand with the country amidst the difficult times. The source said:

"As the L'Oreal ambassador, Alia was supposed to make her Cannes debut. She was slated to attend the grand opening ceremony tonight, for which she had to fly over the weekend. But in the current times of geopolitical tension between India and Pakistan, she wanted to express solidarity with the country and decided against going."

Alia Bhatt might still appear if the situation remains under control between India and Pakistan

Another report by India Today claimed that Alia might choose another date to make her appearance if the situation remained under control. The Raazi actress didn't feel right to get to Cannes at such a crucial time while the Indian army was fighting on the border. The source added:

"Alia took this decision considering the tension at the borders. The 'Raazi' actor did not feel it was right to go to Cannes at such a crucial time. However, that's not to say that she won't. Alia's team is closely following the situation at the border and if things remain calm, she might look at another date to attend. However, right now she will skip her attendance."

When Alia Bhatt expressed her emotions amidst India-Pakistan's war-like situation

Alia, on May 13, 2025, shared her feelings about India and Pakistan's tension. She expressed how she had different nights as India and Pakistan fought on the western border. She even expressed how much anxiety she felt with every news notification, and knowing the soldiers are awake and fighting in the mountains. Her note can be read as :

"The last few nights have felt... different. There's a certain stillness in the air when a nation holds its breath. And over the past few days, we've felt that stillness. That quiet anxiety. That pulse of tension that hums beneath every conversation, behind every news notification, around every dinner table. We have felt the weight of knowing that somewhere, out there in the mountains, our soldiers are awake, alert, and in danger."

However, netizens were quick to slam Alia and point out how her PR is working hard for her Cannes appearance. One user wrote, " Great work by the PR team. Image building for Cannes. Groundbreaking move." Another wrote, "And now the Indian celebrities are playing it safe and writing diplomatically about the whole situation after questions being raised by Indian Janta asking why no celebrity spoke up when it was time to speak up for fear of losing millions of Pakistani followers, eh?"
