Akshay Kumar's Lawyer Breaks Down Rs. 25 Crore Loss After Paresh Rawal's Exit From 'Hera Pheri 3'

Veteran actor, Paresh Rawal recently left everyone in shock after abruptly walking out of Hera Pheri 3, prompting a hefty Rs. 25 crore legal notice from Akshay Kumar’s production banner, Cape of Good Films. This unexpected fallout has threatened to derail the highly anticipated third instalment of the iconic comedy franchise, which was finally gaining momentum after nearly two decades of speculation. Now, Akshay Kumar’s lawyer gave a detailed breakdown of the massive losses incurred by the actor’s unexpected exit from the film franchise, especially given that the film’s trailer had been shot.

Akshay Kumar’s lawyer details the consequences of Paresh Rawal’s exit from Hera Pheri 3

Pooja Tidke, the joint managing partner at Parinaam Law Associates and the legal representative of Akshay Kumar’s production banner, Cape of Good Films, stated that Paresh Rawal’s exit from Hera Pheri 3 caused significant losses to the franchise.

Paresh Rawal had officially signed on for the film and accepted a partial payment of Rs. 11 lakh and even shot some portions of the trailer along with a few scenes from the film itself. However, the production house was completely blindsided when the actor sent a formal letter backing out of the project without any prior notice. Pooja told PTI:

"I think there will be severe legal consequences. It's of course hurt the franchise. We have written to him letting him know that there are a lot of legal consequences involved. There have been expenses incurred towards the cast, towards the crew, towards leading senior actors, logistics equipment, and the shooting of the trailer… There was some portion of about three-and-a-half minutes of the film itself that had been shot. Suddenly, a few days ago, we received a notice from Paresh ji saying that he is no longer associated with the film… So it's taken everybody by shock and surprise, of course.”

Pooja further highlighted the reputational damage that Paresh Rawal’s exit has caused to the franchise and the actors who are committed to the film. The lawsuit directed at the actor accused him of breach of contract and reputational sabotage. More than just financial loss, the legal notice underlined the emotional and professional toll on those associated with the film, especially fans who have waited nearly 20 years for the iconic trio of ‘Raju’ (Akshay Kumar), ‘Shyam’ (Suniel Shetty), and ‘Baburao’ (Paresh Rawal) to return to the screen. In Pooja’s words:

“There's reputational damage involved for the actors that are committed to the film, the franchise as a whole, and of course, there's a great deal of disappointment among the audience. So we're optimistic that things work out, but as of now, we're facing legal issues.”

The legal notice from Akshay Kumar’s production banner also outlines the substantial investments that had already been made in logistics, equipment, senior cast payments, and trailer shoots. If unresolved, the production house has warned of potential civil and criminal action. Tidke added:
