A few days back, netizens on social media were shocked about a miracle that came into the limelight after the Air India plane crash that took place in Ahmedabad. Around 260 people were killed, but an intact hard copy of the Hindu religious text, Bhagavad Gita', remained undamaged, despite intense heat and fuel burning in the aircraft that left bodies charred. Now, it has come to light that the 'Bhagavad Gita' belonged to cabin crew member, Maithili Patil, who lost her life in the tragic Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crash. Her father, Moreshwar Patil, broke down narrating how his daughter was a Krishna bhakt.

A sea of pain has taken place in the Nhava village of Uran Taluka in Navi Mumbai as news came of Maithili's death. Her father, Moreshwar, in an interview with BBC Hindi, was inconsolable as he lost his 'kaleje ka tukda'. Her family's financial conditions were not that great. Her dad had to leave his work as he was unwell. Due to this, the responsibility of the entire family fell on her. A Krishna bhakt, Maithili used to carry an idol of Lord Krishna and the Bhagavad Gita with her on every flight. Her grief-stricken father shared:

"Maithili ki dost ne meri patni ko phone kia aur bataya ki hamari beti crash huei viman mei thi. Meri beti Bhagwan Shri Krishna ki sachi bhakt thi aur woh hamesha apne saath Bhagwad Geeta rakhti thi. Uske bahut sapne thei. Woh kehti thi papa aap akele sab kuch nahi sambhal paoge, woh pure parivar ko sambhal ti thi."

Maithili Patil was the first lady from her village to become a cabin crew member

Maithili made Nhava village proud when she became the first woman from her gao to give wings to her airline career by becoming a cabin crew member with a commercial airline. The mortal remains of Maithili were brought to her home in Nhava village on June 17, 2025. Out of the 12 crew members, Maithili was one of them from Maharashtra and the loss of the young lady who broke barriers and became a hope for many has left her loved ones devastated. Maithili had made a call to her father before boarding her flight to London and promised him to call once she reached London. However, that impending call never came to her father. Maithili was the daughter of an ex-labour contractor of ONGC.

When Maithili Patil revealed that aviation was out of reach for girls coming from small villages

Maithili was 22 when she passed away. She grew up in a humble family and always had the dream of flying. She grew up in a small fishing coastal settlement and dared to dream of the sky, as she was a good student who studied at the Lady Khatun Marium School. After doing a lot of hard work, she wore the Air India uniform, which was her achievement. The principal of Maithli's school, in a press statement, had shared that Maithili was humble and disciplined. In her words:

"Even after joining Air India, she remained in touch with us. Just two months ago, she visited the school to speak at a career guidance seminar and encouraged students, especially girls, to aim high. She said aviation was not out of reach for those who come from small towns.”

Team BollywoodShaadis offers condolences to the bereaved family of Maithili Patil.
