The AI171 crash on June 12, 2025, left several families in tears and heartbroken. The crash took the lives of 229 passengers, 12 crew members, and several trainee doctors in the building. The crash took away the dreams, aspirations, and lives of hundreds. It only took a few minutes for a happy journey to turn into a nightmare. Amid that, the story of a family has surfaced online, leaving the entire country in tears. While the families of many victims have come forward to give their blood samples to get a DNA match, the pain of losing their loved one has been unbearable for many.
A recent video has surfaced online, which showed the pain of the daughter of an Air India AI171 victim. The viral video showed the daughter, Falguni, in an absolutely distraught state as she said that she was willing to pay the Tata Group Rs. 2 crore if it would bring back her father. For the unversed, Tata Group had announced an ex gratia of Rs. 1 crore each to the victims. However, Falguni's statement was the reflection of the pain of hundreds of other families who were still trying to process what had happened.
Falguni was among the several families who had gathered at the BJ Medical College to give their blood samples for DNA matching. The emotions of the families ran high as they anxiously waited for their turn, many even seen breaking down as they waited. The distraught daughter couldn't hold back anymore and, in a conversation with AajTak was heard stating:
"Can the compensation ever bring back my father? My mother is sick, and she needs my father. I need his love and affection. I will pay Rs. 2 crore to them if they can bring back my father, who always preferred travelling Air India."
The Air India AI171 Boeing Dreamliner was full of fuel and was set ablaze as soon as it touched the ground. Between the crash, the fire, which raised the temperature to around 1000 degrees Celsius and in the debris from the medical college hostel building, some victims could not be recognised, and DNA sampling was conducted for the same. An official in an interview with TOI shared:
"Most of the relatives have provide samples. We also got a few foreign nationals. The DNA analysis of the human remains is also being carried out. Once the match takes place, identification will start. Then, the bodies will be handed over to the relatives."
According to aviation experts, Air India AI171 was in the air for 32 seconds before the pilots lost control and the flight began to descend. Witnesses have also reported seeing the aircraft struggling to gain altitude. The plane was carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members on a routine flight to London's Gatwick Airport, which resulted in the death of 241 people on board and several deaths in the hostel building where the plane had crashed. The former CM of Gujarat, Vijay Rupani, also fell victim to the crash.
