The Ahmedabad plane crash has left us terrified. For the unversed, Air India's Boeing 787 Dreamliner started facing issues after being on the air for a few seconds on June 12, 2025, and within minutes it crashed into the B.J. Medical College Hostel nearby, claiming the lives of the people on board, some students and locals. The glimpses of the same left hearts scattered, and one cannot even imagine what the family members of the victims have been going through.

Glimpses from AI-171 Captain, Sumeet Sabharwal's last rites made rounds

Till now, bodies have been recovered and handed over to the families after proper DNA testing. Recently, AI171 captain, Sumeet Sabharwal's mortal remains were handed over to his family, and heartbreaking glimpses from his last rites surfaced. On June 17, 2025, his mortal remains arrived at the Jal Vayu Vihar, the Powai residential complex, where the retired Air Force officers inhabit predominantly.

Sumeet's family members, colleagues and well-wishers arrived to pay their last respects to the 56-year-old captain. In the glimpses that made rounds on social media, Sumeet's grief-stricken father, Pushkaraj Sabharwal was seen paying last tribute to his son. The pain and anguish in his eyes was unmissable.

AI-171 Captain, Sumeet Sabharwal was planning to quit and come back to home

Along with 12 crew and 241 onboard passengers, Captain, Sumeet Sabharwal was also the one to lose his life due to the tragic incident that took place. A report by India Today revealed that Sumeet was soon planning to quit, as he wanted to take care of his ailing father. His close family friend revealed that Sunmeet just called three days back to tell his father that he would come back home to take care of him. Recalling his father's reaction after hearing about his son's demise, the friend stated that he couldn't speak even a word. Stating how Sumeet's dad's eyes were filled with tears, the friend mentioned:

"Sumit had spoken to him just three days ago, saying he wanted to leave flying and come home to care for him. His father couldn’t say a word. His eyes were filled with tears."

Captain, Sumeet Sabharwal was based in Mumbai, and his father, Pushkaraj Sabharwal is also a retired officer of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. Talking about Sumeet, his career in the aviation industry spanned 30 years, and he logged more than 8,200 hours of flight time. He was known for his composed nature and dedication to passenger safety. He also reportedly trained the junior pilots to make them skilled, and he also flew international long-haul flights, as reported. He was planning to retire soon, to be with his family, but the tragic blow of life ended it all. His demise had been a shock to many, and the entire aviation sector had mourned the same.
