Aamir Khan Reveals How He Is Friends With Ex Wives, Reena, Kiran After Divorce, 'Basic Respect'

Bollywood's 'Mr Perfectionist', Aamir Khan, is busy with the promotion of his next offering, Sitaare Zameen Par. The actor, despite divorcing Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao and being a father to Junaid, Ira and Azad Rao Khan, has a beautiful relationship with both his exes. Recently, the actor sat down for a conversation where he revealed how he has been managing to keep a good relationship with both his exes, whom he considers family.

Aamir Khan reveals how he is friends with Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao after his divorce

Aamir Khan sat down for an interview with Mashable India and shared that both Reena and Kiran are special people to him. He shared that he separated from both of them; however, Aamir was a kid when he got married to Reena. He grew up with her and shared that he has been blessed to find supportive partners like Reena and Kiran, with whom he has had a very good relationship. However, when asked what the secret was behind his being friends with his exes after divorce, Aamir shared:

"There has to be basic respect between the two people. Jab aapke beech mei genuine izzat aur pyaar hoh, toh phir aap life ke uss mode pe pahuchte hai jab aapka rishta thoda badal jata hai and aap shadi shuda an rahe toh behtar rahe, lekin usme basic respect and love nai jaata."

Aamir went ahead to also reveal that he is not the husband to Reena and Kiran anymore, but all of them are family. He cannot imagine his family without Reena and Kiran. They are a part of his family and vice versa. Aamir's younger sister, Farhat, got married to Rajeev Datta after Aamir and Reena separated.

Aamir Khan revealed that he was open about his divorce

Aamir, going ahead in the interview, shared that his relationships with Reena and Kiran did fall apart. However, he would never pretend to show that everything was fine. During an earlier interview with the Hindustan Times, he shared that in India, marriage is considered to be a serious affair. When a marriage falls apart and divorces happen, people are not fond of the same. He knows, and so he takes it lightly and has always been truthful. He did agree that after divorcing Reena and Kiran, he did feel a sense of loss and that he could pretend to be happy with them when married, but he could not do the same. In his words:

"Ki meri jo shaadi hain Reena ke saath, hum ab shaadi-shuda nahi reh sakte. Ya Kiran ke saath hum ab shaadi-shuda nahi reh sakte. Toh ye hum sab ke liye loss hi hain, humare parivar ke liye bhi ye ek cheez hain jisse hum khush nahi hain. Hum khushi-khushi ye cheez nahi kar rahe. Lekin kuch circumstances aise aaye ki laga ki humare circumstances badal gaye hain."

Well on the personal front, it was on his 60th birthday in 2025 that Aamir held a press conference at Mumbai's Taj Lands, Bandra. The press did not know then that he would be introducing his girlfriend, Gauri Spratt, to the world. He made the revelation of knowing her for a long time, reconnecting with her and eventually falling in love. Gauri is now seen with Aamir mostly in all his social gatherings and has a good bond with his former wives.
